THERMAL MOVEMENT

All pipe expands and contracts due to changes
in temperature. Failure to properly accommodate
thermal expansion and contraction can lead
to catastrophic damage to the piping system
          and / or equipment.

There are three common methods used to
          accommodate thermal movement of a
          piping system:

          • Provide an expansion joint such as an
expansion loop or a mover device

          • Allow system to free float, utilizing changes
in direction and anchor / guides
          • Utilize the linear movement / deflection
             capabilities of flexible couplings
